The Veena - Issue Two, Healing Waters
Ends on
A new creative offering from Jambu Press and Studio Saraswati, The Veena is a seasonal e-journal of poetry and art featuring a selection of work with a unifying theme. The Veena seeks to offer insight, inspiration, and light in all its varied forms.
Now accepting poems and art for Issue Two: Healing Waters. Interpretations of the theme are left to your imagination and artistry, but may include poems highlighting oceans, lakes, rivers, streams, springs, fountains, the tap in your kitchen, the quotidian ritual of a bath or shower, a glass of water offered to you. We do not shy away from issues affecting water such as drought, pollution, and global warming, but we do not favor rants, or work intentionally written to degrade anyone. The average human body contains 60% water, as Natalie Diaz writes, "We carry the river, its body of water, in our body."
We invite up to 5 poems, but no more than 10 pages of text. We prefer shorter poems, but will read what you send us with great interest, up to two pages in length per poem. Please follow the submission guidelines closely to make our job of formatting easier.
POETS:
1. Include all poems in ONE .pdf, one poem per page (it's OK, as indicated, if one poem takes two pages), each with a clear title. Do NOT put your title in all caps, this just makes us have to retype it to fit our design style.
2. We do not read blind. Put your name as you wish it to appear in print, above the title of each poem, in the body of the text, not the header. Do Not put your name in all caps, again, this just makes us have to retype it to fit our design style. The name you put above your title must match the name you use in your micro bio.
3. Please use a standard font like Times New Roman.
4. If your poem appeared previously in print (we do not accept contemporary work previously published online) add the credit to the bottom of your poem in this format: "My Poem" from My Book of Poems (Publisher, year). If it appeared in a print literary journal, write "My Poem" first appeared in Title of Publication. Credits go below your micro bio, they do not count as part of the 30 word limit.
5. Send us work you feel is truly ready for publication. It adds a great deal more work for us if your poem is accepted, but while reviewing your galley you decide to tweak it here and there (barring missed typos, etc). We may have editorial suggestions, involving changes, but this is a different matter.
6. We send out galleys to all accepted poets and artists which need to be approved before we will include work in an issue. If you know you will be unavailable / off line (good for you!) for an extended time in the two weeks following the submission window closer, please wait to submit to another issue when you will be regularly checking emails.
7. Simultaneous submissions are fine, just keep us informed if accepted elsewhere.
8. No AI generated work please.
ARTISTS:
Artists and photographers may submit up to 5 .pdf images separately with the title of each piece as the file name. Be sure your name appears in your micro bio as you wish it to be printed under your image.
Please be sure to use the field where you must enter the specs on your pieces.
